Of late, I'm being harassed by someone who claims to be an employee of Tribe. His username is P-Air W and Tribe portfolio is here; www.tribe.net/person/8c35...862b153c3da. I'd love to find out if this is really an employee of Tribe or not. Please send me an email, if you might know.

Randy, you're not being harassed, you were simply asked if you could simply help authenticate a member who claimed you as their only friend and showed signs of possibly trolling Tribe. I am indeed a Tribe employee and you can validate this for yourself by going to the "About Tribe" page at: toronto.tribe.net/template/...2CAbout.vm

and looking at Pierre Wolff's link. Once again, I'm sorry you feel that my comments were of a harassing nature, but nothing should have implied such as my request was a simple one. Feel free to continue to make a big deal of this, but your exageration should not change the fact that my intentions were clear fm the get-go. I'm happy to make a full copy of the transcript to any one who cares (unlike the convenient excerpts that Randy has chosen to offer up).

BTW, the link to *my* profile that Randy has offered up appears to be incorrect. just click on my profile here and you can read all about me.

Convincing enough. I agree that you are an employee of Tribe. Please delete my account.

The following is quoted entirely from P-Air's Tribe mail (no excerpt).

Well Randy, already I can say that I appreciate your confirmation that she is indeed a witch. Thanks for all your help. It's evident that you have a good sense for how people in a community work together to make it a better place. You're fm Canada hunh? I guess things are changing there as much as they are in the U.S....sad.

          ...and so is the following:

          ------------
Randy, I am indeed an employee of Tribe, and will make sure that your note is forwarded to the proper folks within the company so that you can be assured that it has received the proper attention. My reason for interacting w/you was very simple, to ascertain whether a member was indeed a member versus someone trying to scam our service. This happens to us at times.

If you feel harrassed by my questions and responses, I certainly respect that and will cease to communicate further. If you need any assistance removing yourself from Tribe feel free to let me know if I can facilitate this for you. I'm truly sorry you feel this way, and let me be the first to say that your contributions to the community will be sorely missed as you have indeed been a valuable contributor to the various Tribe communities in which you have participated.

Good luck with whatever decision you choose to make on this matter.

          Cheers...
          ------------

Once again Randy, I'm sorry you feel as you do, but this is entirely of your making.

How is this my making? You are the one who said "You're fm Canada hunh? I guess things are changing there as much as they are in the U.S....sad." without any provocation on my part.

Randy, nothing I say will change your mind so I'm not sure it will be productive to continue along these lines. You are seeing things from only one perspective in a vaccuum.

Having said that, you should understand that in an open community service such as Tribe's we get people trying all sorts of scams. We don't sit there attempting to be suspicious, but I was a participant where the member's behavior seemed odd. Hence, I tried to do the minimal investigation to ascertain some basic level of trust in that member, and since you were the only member (they were only connected to you) who might be able to assist in this matter I reached out to you. You jumped to the conclusion that this was a "witch hunt" which was presumptuous on your part.

While my comment on Canada was ill-advised, it was not w/o provocation and was in frustration that a simple request to you met w/that sort of strong rebuke, and that indeed was unprovoked. You of all people (you were at BloggerCon weren't you?...as was I) should know that online reputation is established by our words, and our friends and connections. This person claimed to be a friend of yours so I asked you about it. How much more simple could that be?

If you need to know more about my character, feel free to contact any one of the people I've listed as friends.

Just so that we have full disclosure on this matter, but w/o violating the privacy of the member I was inquiring about, here's what lead up to the comments in which Randy claims he was being harassed:

The funny part is that last time I wrote in this forum, I was trying to help your dev staff get the right Content-Type on your RSS responses. And last month, I sent Mark and Darian ideas on how to monetize a social network.

I guess I deserve this for trying to help.

I think it's pretty clear my comments were intent on avoiding confrontation, not provoking. The fact you suggest otherwise is ludicrous.

Obviously you lack any grasps of ethics and that's good enough reason for me to realize that Tribe is doomed.

It's interesting to see how one person's request of someone to get involved in their community, can be considered an ethical breach to the other. Contexts and perspectives are always difficult to align in this crazy mixed up world of ours, this is just another example of that. Again, sorry you feel this way.

I dunno..i just had to leave a tribe because of harrassment...ths guy was trying to trick me into giving him my email address.

I asked the question: "is it true that hotmail is blocking gmails?" on Geekgirls.

And this guy responded that he had both hotmail and gmail accounts, and if i sent him my email address, he could test it. It's like "and why do you need my email address??"
And then he said I had "trust issues"!
                              <sigh>
So i left the tribe. (and linuxchix is probably the same...)
                              :(

Meka, I have noticed that many men just do not understand a need for privacy and safety online and will try to manipulate it, or make fun of it.
Of course you have trust issues! If you have common sense you have issues of trust with strangers.

There are of course wonderful guys who don't take it all personally but for the others I sort of look at it as I would a cultural difference, they just do not have the same concerns and experiences as we do sometimes. Just a thought. Hope you don't feel like you need to leave any more tribes because of stuff like this.

I wouldn't think anything of this thread. After all, it was a tribe.net bug, posted in the appropriate tribe, right?

I'm sure the tech guys will find a surefire way to fix it.

My apologies to all of you who have had deal with this public interaction as it's certainly off-topic for this tribe and was a defensive reaction on my part since only one side of the issue was being made public and was made to look conspiratorial. I was wrong for having elaborated on the matter here, and while I felt strongly that Randy's position was misguided, my approach did not help to alleviate matters and simply inflamed them. This could be considered as much of a community violation as what I was blaming Randy for. All I can say to the rest of you here is sorry, won't happen again.

                  Cheers...

What's the VP of Business Development doing chasing down trolls? Most folks are used to TOU investigating these matters. That being said, as someone who managed a Help Desk for Bank of America for nine years, your comments to him could have been more professional.
